8 best online bike shops in the US
Chain Reaction Cycles

Chain Reaction Cycles (chainreactioncycles.com) is a prominent online retailer specializing in cycling products and accessories.
Their strengths include an extensive range of cycling products, competitive pricing, and a user-friendly online shopping experience. They offer a range of renowned cycling brands and cover categories such as road bikes, mountain bikes, clothing, components, and accessories.
They’re super-well-stocked in bikes, with brands ranging from Cube to Trek, from Giant to Kona, Specialized, Cinelli, Orro, Octane, Ridley, and many more.
Besides the US retailer, they have online shops based in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and even Japan.
Competitive Cyclist
Competitive Cyclists is an American online bike store specializing in cyclocross, road cycling, and mountain biking.
Cervelo, Pinarello, Wilier, Bianchi, Santa Cruz, and Ridley are among the brands you can find here – although not as well stocked as Jenson or Chain Reaction, they still have plenty of dream machines.
At CC, you can also find a good selection of panniers and bikepacking bags for touring and commuting, including some brands that aren’t easy to find online. They also have a special “women” category.
Jenson USA
Jenson USA is one of my favorite American online bike shops. Plenty of great brands such as Niner, Specialized, Bianchi, Surly, Kona, Salsa, and Santa Cruz…
One special thing about Jenson is that they offer original custom builds, made to order and tailored to the customer’s needs. They use frames and components from famous brands to deliver a unique bike.Â
Jenson USA also stocks all components you might dream of, plenty of cycle touring gear and bikepacking bags, and all sorts of apparel from shoes to base layers. They ship worldwide.
Performance Bike
PerformanceBike.com offers a diverse range of cycling products, including road, mountain, and hybrid bikes, cycling apparel, components, tools, electronics, and nutrition stuff.
Catering to all levels of cyclists, they emphasize quality and customization. While the most populated category can vary, historically, road bikes, cycling apparel, and components have been prominent.
Among the bike brands: Bombtrack, Specialized, Orbea, Niner, Surly, and Diamondback. They also feature an incredible assortment of tires. Ships worldwide.
REI Cycles
Probably the biggest and most popular online outlet for sports and outdoor gear in the US, REI.com is a trusted brand with strong brand recognition.
From the cycling world, they feature brands such as Revelate, Topeak, Garmin, Wahoo, Park Tool, and many more.
Regarding bikes: Brompton, Cannondale, Diamondback, Electram, Salsa, Tern, and their proprietary brand, Co-op Cycles, are known for their great value for money.
If you’re shopping for bike touring gear on Rei.com, you’ll find literally everything you might need or want. 100% reccommended.
Treefort Bikes

Treefort Bikes is the best online shop for bikepacking gear we found in the USA, the only one with a proper “bikepacking” category: Apidura, Acepack, Revalete, Osprey… and a million more brands, some of which I didn’t even hear of before.
The accessories category is also quite enticing: lots of luggage carrier racks, kickstands, mirrors, locks… You name it.
Bike choices, though, are somehow limited. Surly, Salsa, Octane, Liv (Giant’s women’s brand), and a few cheaper brands.
Unfortunately, they only ship to the United States. The website is pretty old-school.
Wiggle USA
Wiggle is not only about cycling but also an outdoor shop with a special focus on bicycle touring. It features Vaude, Brooks, and Altura panniers, various racks, Garmin not-bicycle-specific GPS devices, sleeping bags and mats, cooking gear, and Nordisk, Vaude, and Terranova tents.
The choice of touring bikes, though, is not vast. A few GT and Bobbin bikes, and that’s it. Ships worldwide.
Is it safe to buy a bike online?
Yes — when you choose reputable stores. Legit online bike retailers clearly display contact info, real customer reviews, and secure checkout systems. Be cautious of prices that seem too good to be true, as these can be signs of scams.
Do online bike stores ship bikes fully assembled?
Policies vary. Some stores ship bikes partially assembled with instructions or tools included, while others may offer local shop pickup and professional assembly if available. Always check the store’s shipping and assembly details before buying.
How do I know what size bike to order online?
Most online retailers provide size guides, geometry charts, and filters to help match bikes to your height and riding style. If you’re unsure, look for sites with customer support or live chat to help you choose.
Are online bike stores cheaper than local shops?
Often, yes — online sellers can offer lower prices thanks to bulk purchasing and lower overhead. However, local shops may provide in‑person support, custom fitting, and maintenance services you won’t get with an online‑only purchase.
