If you go from LinHai to XianJu you should know that a bus station in the center of LinHai moved to other location – crossing of 立发路 and 凯歌路 (these are street names in LinHai). We are not sure if it’s permanent check the date of my message.

You can find all the buses schedules and available tickets in the Amap app (includes LinHai to XianJu for example or to any towns nearby). It’s in Chinese though so you should guess all the options or translate in advance.

We weren’t able to find a bus from XianJu to ShenXianJu so took a taxi. Got different information from different locals on the bus station.

Be careful with hotels in XianJu too. Firstly, like in other parts of China many of them don’t accept foreigners. Secondly, (our case) some hotels exist on Booking but don’t consider it. Call the property if you speak Chinese (don’t email) or check Ctrip.com.

Good luck.

Thanks Rowena! We are so happy our post helped you and your relatives have a good time. Thanks a lot for the useful information. Next time consider visiting Sanmen, the area we’re living in, very underrated but unique. If you pass by before June give us a whistle.

Just spent a pleasant weekend in Linhai and Shenxianju with my parents visiting from NZ. It was so easy to manage after reading your blog. Couple of updates/comments regarding Shenxianju that your readers might find interesting/useful:
– you can take a bus from Linhai to Xianju. They leave from XinkeZhan (Xinke Bus Station) in the centre of Linhai (close to Times Square). They take about an hour and cost 18RMB per person currently. They drop you off at the bus station that take you to Shenxianju – so super convenient.
– Buses from Xianju to Shenxianju leave at 7:20, 8:30, 9:30, 11, 12:30, 14:00 and 15:30
– Buses from Shenxianju (north gate) to Xianju leave at 8:20, 9:30, 10:30, 12, 13:30, 15, 16:30
– If you are over 60, take your passport. Over 60 is half price entry and over 70 is free! You will still need to pay for cable cars however.
– About half way from the North Entrance to the Cable Car there is a rocking climbing centre. You can do an introduction course for 100RMB which includes all of the equipment, an introduction at “ground level” and then experience doing the same thing at 300m up. It actually looked pretty well organised with modern equipment, helmets and guides. The staff could speak some English.
Cycloscope did not overstate the vertigo-inducing views at the top. I think the worst part was watching some locals dangle babies over the edge for photo opportunities. Despite the vertigo, this was absolutely breathtaking and definitely on the highly-recommended list. We went on a Saturday – there were some small tour groups but mostly family and friend groups. I was going to say it was busy but for a Chinese tourist spot it really isn’t – easy to find a restful spot without crowds and enjoy the amazing scenery. Very enjoyable day. Thanks again Cycloscope – will be working through your day trips now 😉
